GP Trainees

Woodlands Surgery is an accredited practice for the training of doctors intending to become general practitioners.

The practice and doctors have achieved a number of standards which have been assessed by the Health Education and Improvement Wales.

The doctors training to become GPs are called GP Trainees or GP Registrars. They are attached to one of the doctors here at the practice who is their Trainer.  They will work independently but will be continually assessed and monitored by their GP Trainer.  The GP registrar is a fully qualified doctor who is likely to have a lot of experience of hospital medicine.

If you are seeing a GP Trainee you can expect to receive the quality of service you would from your own GP. If you have any concerns please mention this to a member of staff.

In order for the GP Trainees to successfully complete their training they need to be assessed on their consulting skills. To do this their appointed trainer is required to view video recordings of the GP Trainee in consultation with patients.   Before seeing a GP Trainee you MAY be asked for your permission to have your consultation recorded in this way. If you agree you will be asked to give your written permission by signing a consent form. If the doctor appears to be recording your consultation and you have not signed a consent form you should indicate this to him or her immediately.  The recording will be used for educational purposes only. For further information about this process and the confidentiality of it please ask at reception staff

 

Medical Students

We are an approved teaching practice for undergraduate medical students from Cardiff University and graduate students from Swansea University. 

We look forward to your co-operation in the training of future doctors.  Please note that the students are bound by the same code of medical ethics (including that of confidentiality) as the staff and doctors at the practice.  However, should you rather not have students present during the consultation please let us know and your wishes would be respected; rest assured that your care would not be compromised and you would continue to receive the same high standard of care in the case of your non-participation in teaching activities.
